Here in the Northwest, cool damp winters lead to a lot of mold and mildew problems. We’ve found that the electric boat air dryers like the DryWave Air Dryer work great in these conditions, but you have to have a reliable power source. We’ve talked with a number of customers that don’t have power where they store their boat, or they aren’t allowed to leave electrical appliances running while the boat is unattended.

Other customers are facing high humidity with higher temperatures where an electric air dryer won’t function efficiently. That left them to fall back on messy, wasteful chemical solutions.

We are excited to be offering a third, new option, the Eva-Dry Dehumidifier. The Eva-Dry uses silica crystals to absorb moisture from the air. The crystals are contained in a compact case, with an easy to read moisture meter that tells you when the crystals are saturated and not able to absorb any more moisture. When this happens, simply take the Eva-Dry to a well ventilated area and plug it in. Within a day, it will have dried the crystals back out again, and the unit is ready to go again. The Eva-Dry works even in higher temperatures, and while you need power to recharge them, no electricity is needed or used while they are in operation, absorbing moisture from your boat. The Eva Dry comes in 2 sizes, the E-500 for up to 500 cubic ft. and the E-333 for up to 333 cubic ft. Multiple units can be used in larger areas or to increase absorption.   The E-333 typically lasts 20-30 days between recharges, while the E-500 will typically go 30-60 days.  Please note that time between recharges will depend on a number of variables.

Sauvie Island is a low island at the confluence of the Willamette River and the Columbia near St. Helens, Oregon.  Scenic vistas of the Columbia rolling under the gaze of nearby Mount St. Helens aren't the only draw.  When the Chinook are running, it is a favorite spot with local fisherman.  I counted over 60 boats today while having lunch under the lighthouse.  Hawg lines stretched as far as I could see and that didn't count the dozens of anglers lined up on the beach.  While I saw way more people than fish this afternoon, I was told things had been pretty hot the day before and a number of folks had limited out before lunch.  

Anglers cluster in prime spots.  This is one of dozens of lines formed up off Warrior Rock in the Columbia today.  Note all the orange floats.  These are AnchorLifts.  Although they are used on big water across the nation, this is where they were born and is why many folks refer to them as Columbia River Anchor Systems

Mt. St. Helens sleeps peacefully under a blanket of snow today.  The wisp of steam at the top is the only indication that in 1980 it erupted so forcefully that it blew off the top 1/3 of the mountain.

Not everyone shouldered into the Hawg lines.  Many anglers tried their luck from shore.

Not all the anglers are human either.  This pair of Osprey (Fish Hawks or Fish eagles) is tending a nest on one of the many navigation beacons.  This stretch of the Columbia is bordered by the Sauvie Island Wildlife Refuge on one side and Ridgefield Wildlife Refuge on the other.
